Sony: Wii's Business Is Superior But Doesn't Hurt Us

071109_sony_vlrg_730a.widecSony CEO Howard Stringer admitted that Nintendo adopted a "superior business model" than Sony's, but noted that this doesn't hurt Sony.

"The Wii is a well-made device that has found a new target group. For a while, we held the same target group with the SingStar karaoke game. But perhaps we neglected to pursue that avenue," Stringer told Deutsch news site, Die Welt. "PlayStation games are rather designed for those who play a lot. Although it's a different strategy, it pays off. We currently have a production bottleneck with the PlayStation 3."

"You also know, however, that our business model is not perfect, and that we make a loss on every console we sell," he conceded. "Nintendo makes money with the hardware alone, which may be a superior business model. But the Wii is not succeeding at our expense - it is not hurting us."

Stringer then said that Sony "are already making more money with the games than we are losing with the hardware", but when he was asked when asked if Sony would recover the USD 3 billion it spent on bringing PS3 to market, his answer was: "Not for as long as I live."
The Sun: Gamers Don't Exercise

"The only bits of anatomy many young men exercise are their fingers and wrists", wrote Dr. Keith in today's issue of The Sun.

"No sniggering at the back, please, I'm talking about computer games", he added. 'All those leisure hours we used to fill with climbing trees or kicking balls have gone. Because we're all too busy clicking on consoles with eyes glued to a screen."

"I recently caught my teenage kids playing virtual tennis", Dr. Keith still speaking. "There's a tennis court down the road. But instead of getting fresh air, they were wearing out our carpet, their thumb joints and my patience."

18 Hours for a Final Fantasy XI Boss? Whah?!?!

wardenWe've all encountered lengthy RPG boss fights that lasted for more than an hour or two, but an 18 hours long MMORPG boss fight might be a little too much.

The fight took place in Final Fantasy XI, where "Beyond The Limitation" guild fought a new boss, Pandemonium Warden, who changed into 20 different forms through 18 fighting hours before the band finally gave up.

"People were passing out and getting physically ill. We decided to end it before we risked turning into a horrible new story about how videogames ruin people's lives", said one of the guild members called Sylphet. "None of us doubt that Pandemonium Warden can be killed. We just call into question exactly what the development team thinks is reasonable from human beings."

Keep in mind that those 18 hours weren't enough to finish the fight. Beyond The Limitation guild members believe that at least another 3 to 5 hours are needed to kill Pandemonium Warden
