When you think of gaming what comes to mind? For most the farthest thing from their mind is females. For decades the gaming community has been made up of mostly the male persuasion. If females were even thought of in the gaming community, they were labeled as geeks. But within the past couple of years, females have taken the gaming community by storm and looking good while doing it. And they’re not just playing the typical female games such as The Sims or Dance Dance Revolution, they’re blowing away all the guys in games like Rainbow Six Vegas, GRAW 2, and Gears of War.

With the influx in girl gamers there has also been an influx of girl gaming services. On Xbox.com there is an organization that females can join called Gamerchix. They host various games every Friday night. They also just had there one year anniversary and celebrated having over 2,400 female gamers. For more info on Gamerchix go to www.xbox.com/gamerchix . There’s also various female clans, the most prominent one being The Frag Dolls. They started in 2004 with an open call and are sponsored by Ubisoft. They shut out the competition at there debut play Rainbow Six 3: Black Arrow, and have been winning awards ever since. For more info on The Frag Dolls visit www.fragdolls.com.

So you’re a female and you want to start gaming you just don’t know how to get your foot in the door. Here’s a couple easy steps to get you more comfortable with your controller:

1.      Find a game that interests you or that you are good with and stick to it

2.      Don’t be afraid to play on Xbox Live. Don’t let the men intimidate you. You have just as much right to be there as they do

3.      Find friends to play with. They don’t have to be anyone you know personally. Some of the best friends you can make are friends over Xbox Live

4.      If you are into using the computer find a good Xbox forum to join. The fun of posting and the friends you will make there are priceless. A good one I suggest is XLN. It’s your one stop shop for great people and great information about the Xbox 360.

5.      Don’t be afraid to let your girly side show. Just because your playing with guys and possibly sawing people in half in Gears of War, doesn’t mean that you have to be a guy. There are many ways to show your girl side, from using a girly gamertag to buying a pink skin for your controller.

6.      The sixth and most important rule is to have fun. Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t do it. Put your mind to it and have a blast.

 In today’s society there is a wide variety of female gamers. So whether your young or old, a mommy, or a wife, or just use it as a way to unwind when you get off of work, just pick up a controller and get in the game. Live long, love lots, and play hard J
