Ever since they announced that Final Fantasy XIII will hit Xbox 360 as well as Playstation 3, Square Enix has been subjected to fans criticism and accusations of "betrayal".
"I'd rather they not think of [Final Fantasy XIII on Xbox 360] as a 'betrayal' or disappointment," Square Enix Corporate Director Shinji Hashimoto said. "It's not like we're cancelling or delaying the PS3 version at all! It's more of an added bonus for 360 fans. We won't be putting them at a disadvantage in any way."
"I think that maybe because it's going multiplatform that some fans are worried about the game's scope being reduced to fit onto both consoles," series Producer Yoshinori Kitase tried to find excuses for his game's fans. "The fact is, the PS3 version is what's in development right now, and the team is working to specialize that version to the very best of the PS3's abilities."
"After that, we'll do the 360 port and optimize it to that particular hardware. There will be no decrease in quality as a result of the game appearing across two platforms." |

After 15 months in operation, Richard Garriot's Tabula Rasa will shut down on February 28, 2009.
"Tabula Rasa has some unique features that make it fun and very different from every other MMO out there," Tabula Rasa development team wrote on the game's official site. "Unfortunately, the fact is that the game hasn't performed as expected. The development team has worked hard to improve the game since launch, but the game never achieved the player population we hoped for."
Before the game's death, Tabula Rasa servers will be free to play starting on January 10, 2009.
As a farewell gift, all active Tabula Rasa players received: • 3 free months of City of Heroes including digital client • 3 free months of Lineage II including digital client • Aion beta access (coming soon) • Aion pre-order access (available in 2009) • 1 free month of Aion including digital client (available in 2009) |

During the BMO Capital Markets' conference last week in New York, Take Two CEO Strauss Zelnick discussed their plans for the future of Grand Theft Auto.
"The Holy Grail is taking a business, already a very large and successful business that's focused on packaged goods... and turning that into a subscription business or a semi subscription business where we have an ongoing relationship with consumers, giving them products that they want," he said. "Who's better positioned to do that than the company that has the top franchises?" GTA certainly is a "top franchise" and its upcoming GTA IV downloadable content seems like an ideal candidate for testing a "semi subscription business" model. Does that mean that GTA 5 will be subscription based? Your guess is as good as ours. |
