IMG_0961-1With weekend sales topping 2 million units worldwide, Gears of War 2 is well on its way to becoming one of the biggest releases of this console generation.

Over 20,000 retail locations opened their doors at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 7 to celebrate the worldwide release of Gears of War 2. After months of anticipation, throngs of eager fans in 20 countries were finally able to get their hands on the Xbox 360 exclusive title.

"We were so excited to launch 'Gears of War 2' on the same day all around the world, something virtually unheard of in the games business," said Cliff Bleszinski, design director at Epic Games. "We wanted our fans, no matter where they live, to have a shared experience on day one, and that's exactly what's happened."

More than 1.5 million people logged into Gears of War 2 on Xbox LIVE during the weekend, racking up a total 15 million gameplay hours and helping set a new record for concurrent LIVE players. These players also collectively unlocked more than 19 million Achievements.

Gears of War 2 sees COG heroes Marcus Fenix and Delta Squad fighting to save the last cities on Sera from an engulfing Locust threat, while the mission turns personal for Dominic Santiago as he uncovers clues in the search for his missing wife, Maria.

Sacred_2_BannerCDV feels so confident about Sacred 2: Fallen Angel that they are offering the whole game as a demo!!

Included in the DVD and digital download versions of the game is a "try before you buy" demo that you can share and distribute freely among family and friends. Instead of previewing a portion of the game, the new demo will give you access to the whole single and multi-player elements of the full game. The game will stay unlocked for 24 hours, after which you have to uninstall or purchase it online.

"Rather than showcasing only a limited character or content selection, as most traditional demos do, gamers can share and enjoy the full game experience, trying out the features that most appeal to them, and getting a true sense of the full game," said Mario Kroll, director of marketing and PR for cdv Software.

Sacred 2: Fallen Angel is an action RPG which features a huge, seamless and living world spanning over 22 square miles of hand-crafted terrain, top-notch 3D graphics and online "hot swap" cooperative play with monsters that dynamically adjust to party strength for a consistent challenge. The Windows PC version of Sacred 2: Fallen Angel is currently slated for a November 11, 2008 release in North America, with versions for both the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 following on February 17, 2009.

Xbox 360 Enjoys Highest Attach Rate

2237487Data released by both Nintendo and Microsoft independently, revealed that the Xbox 360 enjoys the highest attach rate in the current consoles generation.

Attach rate is the average number of titles each console owner bought. According to Nintendo's data, Xbox 360 enjoys an attach rate of 6.6, followed by Wii which sold 5.5 titles per console sold. In the third place - as usual - came Sony's Playstation 3 which has an attach rate of 5.3.

Expectedly, Microsoft is using the aforementioned figures to brag about its software sales success. "[Attach rate]can be an indication of the health of a system", commented Anita Frazier, analyst for the NPD Group, before adding that it can also be used in misleading ways. "As a system gets further along in its lifecycle and perhaps hardware sales start to diminish, the tie ratio tends to go up because software sales are the bigger draw. If a hardware system is doing gangbuster sales, then the tie ratio can go down even if there are lots of overall sales."

For each Wii sold, Nintendo sold 2.4 first party titles, compared to Microsoft and Sony's first party attach rates of 1.4 and 0.9 respectively. The most recent hardware sales data indicates that Wii has sold a total of 35 million units to date, Xbox 360 sold 22 million units and Playstation 3 sold 16.5 million units.
