Ubisoft has been heavily criticized before for using Starforce and SecuROM DRM systems, but for their latest title, Prince of Persia, they decided to offer it completely free of all and any copy protection systems. "A lot of people complain that DRM is what forces people to pirate games but as PoP PC has no DRM we'll see how truthful people actually are. Not very, I imagine," Community Manager UbiRazz wrote on the official forum. He then noted that this applies to retail DVDs only, as Steam version will still be tied to Steam's authentication system. Prince Of Persia will, no doubt, be pirated just like any other game. In fact, the game has already been available on p2p networks for a few days now. But will it be pirated less than other titles, or will it be just another argument for publishers when they want to defend DRM? |

Sony: No Plans For PSP 2. PSP Still Lacks Good Titles |

SCEE president David Reeves said that Sony has no plans for a "PSP 2" and that, instead, they'll keep on improving the current PSP.
"There are currently no plans for a PSP2. I go to Tokyo quite a lot and no one has referred to it - I think they have their hands full at the moment," he remarked.
Reeves then admitted that PSP's software library is still lacking. "Its weakness, however, is its software. And that's because developers, when it comes to placing their bets, have to choose PS3 and 360, then Wii, then DS, maybe even PS2 before PSP. It's the same at our internal studios, where the focus has been on PS3. They've also focused a lot on PS2 as well because we have to get the SingStars out for that format. So PSP games will come - they just take a while longer." |

CNNMoney Calls Playstation 3 'A Sinking Ship' |

Following its poor sales during November, CNNMoney editor, Eric Krangel, lashed out against Sony's Playstation 3, calling it a "sinking ship" that is "dying on the shelves".
Krangel pointed out that Playstation 3's November 2008 sales are actually 19% down from 2007's. "The problem for Sony isn't the recession, it's the PS3," he wrote. "Microsoft put up respectable numbers with its Xbox 360, selling 836,000 units vs 777,000 in November 2007. And Nintendo's Wii continues to dominate the market, more than doubling sales from 981,000 to 2.04 million."
Krangel attributed Playstation 3's alleged demise to three factors: (1) being the most expensive console on the market, (2) falling demand for BluRay movies and (3) its lack of good exclusive games.
"There's really only one option left for Sony to remain in the game: deep price cuts, and not just for people with good credit," he concluded. "Tell yourself the PS3 has superior graphics if it makes you feel better, but a $400 console with a mediocre game library simply cannot compete against an Xbox 360 priced at $200 in this economy." |
